Theme parties have evolved far beyond the level of children's birthday parties. Major life events such as weddings are now being planned incorporating an array of interesting themes which add a touch of adventure and excitement for those couples desiring a non-traditional theme wedding.
The simplest form of this type of ceremony and reception is comprised of decorations and motifs carried throughout different aspects such as invitations and cake decorations that reflect a specific time of year.
Spring theme weddings use flower buds and pastel color schemes. Summer theme weddings utilize full greenery, bright yellows, and blooming flowers. Fall theme or autumn theme weddings make use of the bountiful colors in fall foliage such as browns, reds, and oranges. Winter theme weddings can be steeped in black and white or light, icy blue colors. Sometimes specific flowers are chosen at any time of year such as roses or sunflowers.
Other ideas for these special marriage ceremonies are more elaborate and carry the idea much farther throughout all aspects of the wedding, including the attire. The bride, groom, and the entire wedding party generally wear costumes. Guests may also choose to (or be required to) dress up as characters as well.
Destination weddings can be considered theme weddings in some cases. Alternately, if the couple can't afford to actually get married at the destination of their choice, a theme created around that location or concept can be created instead. Examples of this would be a Las Vegas style wedding held at a casino closer to the couple's home or a beach theme wedding that can be held indoors even in the coldest of geographic areas.
Historical theme weddings can reflect any time period and people have used everything from ancient Rome to eighteenth century France for inspiration. Enthusiasts of all things macabre have enjoyed weddings designed around all kinds of horror motifs like vampires, werewolves, or Halloween itself.
A more classic and more popular choice is probably medieval theme weddings. It is easy to find coordinating accessories and decorations at bridal shops if this is your choice. The most appropriate venue for this idea would be a castle. If you look hard enough, you can find a castle that rents out rooms for occasions. Imagine what the wedding pictures will look like with a castle backdrop in outside pictures and suits of armor and family crests adorning the walls in the inside pictures! Arrival by horse and carriage is sure to impress the guests. Character entertainers can be hired from local theater groups that produce medieval shows and dinner theater. After all, what kind of medieval wedding would you have without a wizard, a jester, and serving wenches?
Cowboy theme, western, or Wild West weddings all indicate the same thing to potential guests. They will be in for a wild time with this type of wedding. Expect a sea of cowboy hats aplenty on the dance floor and a sea of boots stomping to country music and line dancing. Arrival by stagecoach or Little House on the Prairie style covered wagon would create an unforgettable entrance.
Brides are only limited by their own creativity (and perhaps the budget) here so the list of possibilities really is endless. Other popular themes these days are fairytale weddings and their close cousins, Cinderella weddings, 20's gangster weddings, pirate weddings, Hawaiian weddings, and music theme weddings.
