Wedding Dresses
When most little girls dream of their weddings, the first images that comes to mind are not the grooms – they're the perfect wedding dresses! When the girls grow up and imagine their weddings, they've probably shifted the images to those of couture and designer wedding dresses such as those by Vera Wang, Armani, and Mori Lee which are often worn by celebrities.
Whether they decide to look at modest, informal, casual, vintage, simple, classic, frilly, lacey, or just plain simple wedding dresses, future brides will quickly discover that their choices are virtually endless. Fortunately, there are ways (in addition to searching for cheap dresses to keep the budget from bursting at the seams) to narrow down the options.
Body type comes into play here as much as it does with other types of clothing. Certain styles and cuts look better on some body types than others. Some brides tend to forget this and it is obvious to their guests and everyone else in the wedding party. The best advice here is to find the style that flatters your body type and look within that style before getting your heart set in something that doesn’t do you justice. Interestingly, when people don't like a particular dress on a bride, there is nothing wrong with either the bride or the dress, it is just a mismatch between the two.
After the wedding, brides can preserve their wedding dress for sentimental reasons or for practical reasons if they hope to someday pass it on to their daughters or other family members. (One caution here is that styles change over the years and the recipient may not be so interested in wearing what she considers a "vintage" dress.) Another possibility is to sell the dress at a consignment shop or through an online auction site in order to recoup some of the cost went into it originally. Another option (which I think is more of a fad than a new trend) is brides trashing their dresses after the wedding – some at the end of the reception. Methods include getting the dress wet by jumping in a pool, slicing it to shreds with scissors or garden shears, and grinding dirt into it by rolling around in the mud.
